VIAF 2014

Our first soloist is violin virtuoso Dejan Bogdanovich …

After blowing away the packed audience at St George’s Basilica in the VIAF inaugural concert last year with his dazzling performance of Tchaikovsky’s lovely violin concerto, this year Dejan Bogdanovich will be back to regale us with Wieniawski’s Violin Concerto No. 2  in D Minor op. 22.

Dejan Bogdanovich comes from a famous artistic family. He was born in Novi Sad (Vojvodina, Serbia) and was nurtured in the high Russian School style. He studied with the world-famous violinist Viktor Tretiakov, who had this to say about him: “Dejan is a musician of great refinement and artistry. Much of this is due to the originality and fullness of his musical ideas….  Dejan is without doubt the herald of the new age of violinists.” He made his debut at the age of 10, and, at 17, played Paganini’s Violin Concerto no. 1 with the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra. Since then he has been soloist with many symphony orchestras in Europe, Russia and Canada. At just 19 years of age, he was winner at the Vienna International Competition and the Zagreb International Competition. He is regularly invited as guest at prestigious international festivals. His last CD, Virtuosismo e Meditazione-Live in Italy, is earning a big success with both audience and critics,  the latter calling him “the genius of colour”. As a concert soloist, he has performed the most famous concertos for Violin and Orchestra, including those of Bach, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Saint-Saëns, Paganini, Wieniawsky, Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, Vieuxtemps, and others. He has toured the world, with a highly-acclaimed series of concerts in China last year.
