Four of Malta’s leading saxophonists join forces to perform saxophone quartet works with influences from around the world. Rivier’s Grave et Presto opens the programme with typical taste of French music. One of the core works in the saxophone quartet repertoire will also be featured, which is Glazunov’s Saxophone Quartet, a late work in the composer’s oeuvre with influences from different composers in the Romantic era. Whitlock’s Celtic Suite will showcase musical influences from Wales, Scotland and Ireland and finally American giant Gershwin will be showcased through his Three Preludes, which clearly reflect his interest in jazz and its immersion with Western classical music.
