Claire Massa and Joanne Camilleri in a recital of Lieder on Sunday 26 June

On Sunday 26 June, well-established Maltese mezzo soprano Claire Massa will give a very exciting recital of works by Brahms, Satie, Respighi, Britten, and Bernstein.  She will be accompanied on the piano by Joanne Camilleri, fresh from her success with Bach’s Goldberg Variations in our Festival.

The concert will be held at the Aula Mgr G. Farrugia and starts at 8pm. Don’t miss it!!

Claire Massa is a graduate of the University of Malta, with a Masters degree in Voice Performance.  She has attended master classes all over Europe and is a regular performer in concerts both in her native Malta and beyond.  Her warm vocal timbre enables her to tackle a wide repertoire, from the Baroque to the contemporary, and she is an avid performer of German Lieder and French Song.  She has sung numerous operatic roles, most notably Mercedes in Bizet’s Carmen, and Fenena in Verdi’s Nabucco.  She has also sung the classic concert repertoire such as Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Mozart’s Requiem, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, and many more.  Claire has also three CDs to her credit.  She is currently Head of the Department of Music within the Government Education Department, as well as a teacher in primary schools.  She is also a visiting lecturer in the Music Department within the Faculty of Performing Arts and in the Faculty of Education at the University of Malta.

Joanne Camilleri is a prize-winning graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, and also holds a Doctorate in Performance from the University of Malta.  Joanne’s versatility has seen her perform in numerous venues around Europe and Asia as a recitalist, concerto soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral/continuo player.  A musician with a wide-ranging repertoire, she has premièred works by contemporary composers, is a recurrent performer in the Valletta International Baroque Festival, and has performed concertos by Grieg, Saint-Saëns, and Chopin with British Orchestras and the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra.  She is also member of the Valletta International Baroque Ensemble, which specialises in the Baroque repertoire and perform on period instruments.  As a recording artist Joanne has released two solo CDs: In Bach’s Footsteps and J S Bach Goldberg Variations.
