Alke Quartet in concert on Thursday 16th

On Thursday 16th, a concert of music written for string quartet will be performed by the Alke Quartet from England. Works by Beethoven (Quartet no. 11 in F Minor op. 95, ‘Serioso’), Janáček (Quartet no. 1, ‘Kreutzer Sonata’), and Webern (Langsamer Satz) will be performed.

Alke Quartet is made up of Soh-Yon Kim/Henry Chandler (Violin), Benjamin Charles Harrison (Viola), and Karen Louise French (Violoncello). It was formed in 2011 from members of the Southbank Sinfonia, and two years ago they welcomed Soh-Yon Kim as first violinist.  Following their highly successful Park Lane Group audition in Spring 2015, the Alke Quartet have been selected as PLG Young Artist for 2015/16, which involved concerts in St John’s Smith Square, London, this April as part of the long-established PLG Young Artists Series. Part of the Chamber Studio, Kings Place, London, Alke Quartet have received master classes from Rita Wagner, Krysia Osostowicz, Simon Rowland-Jones, and Richard Ireland. Finalists in the Bloch Music Competition and St Martin-in-the-Fields Chamber Music Competition, they were accepted for the International Music Seminar Prussia Cove, working closely with the Endellion Quartet’s David Waterman. Their performance venues include St Martin-in-the-Fields, St James’s Piccadilly, Bath’s Pump Room, and the Barbican Centre.  Also in 2015/16, the Alke Quartet will be in residence at the Royal College of Music on the Artist Diploma in Chamber Music Course, kindly supported by a legacy from the late Albert and Eugenie Frost. In their busy season ahead, the ensemble are also thrilled to be featured in this year’s St Martin-in-the-Fields Lunchtime Concert Series.

This concert will be held at St Francis Church and starts at 8pm.  Don’t miss it!
