Accordion virtuoso Djordje Gajic in a recital this evening
This evening, accordion virtuoso Djordje Gajic will perform a recital of works by Bach, Scarlatti, Mozart, Semenov, Dranga, and Volotaryov. The concert will be held at St Augustine Church and starts at 8pm.
Djordje Gajic began his musical studies in Serbia at the age of 6, graduating with full honours from the Russian Academy of Music in 1993 gaining a Master of Music degree and the honorary title, ‘Solo Performer’. Following the recommendation for post-graduate study from the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music, he continued his studies there and was appointed Assistant to the legendary accordion virtuoso Yuri Dranga. Djordje has won many International Competitions, amongst them Tropheo Mondiale CMA in 1988, and the Grand Prix, France, in 1987. He has also received many awards of outstanding merit leading to television and radio broadcasts. He has performed with the Russian State Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Yvgeny Svetlanov, RSNO, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, as well as engaging with many solo recitals throughout Europe: Russia, Serbia, Andorra, Holland, France, Germany, Poland, Latvia, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Norway, and Britain. Since arriving in Britain he has given solo recitals in London, Leeds, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester, Blackpool, Birmingham, and more. He also performed at the International Music Festivals in Dartington, Norwich, Salisbury, and Birmingham. Djordje is Professor of Accordion at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and St Mary’s Music School.
